PRR 7027, EFS-17M, c. 1966
Kern. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred R. Kern that was taken near Perdix, Pennsylvania, c. 1966. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #7027 and three more "Geeps" whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EFS-17M road switchers built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #7027 was constructed in November of 1955. In this context, they're pulling a mixed-cargo freight train from Enola to Altoona. Blue Mountain dominates the distance. Partially visible at the left is the mighty Susquehanna River flowing from left to right on its merry way to Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
